Description

This monumental, horizontally oriented landscape painting is set deep in a gorge, a steep-walled canyon created by a river running through it. The valley at the bottom runs from the center of the painting and off to the right, disappearing around a cliff. The precipitous walls of the gorge, captured in black ink with a small amount of color, are enshrouded in small clusters of clouds, sunlight barely permeating the darkness. A cluster of pine trees stands on a rocky outcropping in the foreground on the left, and another grove is visible at the top of the mountain in the center. The artist’s name and seal have been added at the lower right of the painting.
