Curb Appeal

Curb Appeal is a half-hour TV series that has aired on HGTV in the United States from 2002 to the present, exploring how a house's outside "curb appeal" will be updated. Various hosts over the years, talk the viewer through the planned improvements. Originally the new look was imagined by drawing the proposed changes over a still picture of the exterior but now computer-generated visualizations are created. Changes include painting, landscaping, and fences, as well as pruning or removing overgrown shrubs, and sometimes cutting down good trees. John Gidding is now the only host and more recent episodes involve multiple homes in an San Francisco Bay Area block, and are titled Curb Appeal. There has also been at least one hour-long Christmas special titled A Very Merry Curb Appeal, with two homes adorned with Christmas decorations.

The Fix

The Fix is a Canadian reality television series based around a home renovation prank. The series premiered on July 3, 2008, on HGTV. The program is produced by General Purpose Pictures and is hosted by contractors Neil Davies and Jay Purvis. The series also airs on the Fine Living network in the United States.

World's Greenest Homes

WORLD'S GREENEST HOMES takes viewers on tours of houses that have been designed to be both stylish and environmentally friendly. From Indiana to Australia, host Emmanuel Belliveau travels the world to get a close-up look at some of today's most spectacular "green" houses, whose owners have committed themselves to invest in dwellings that conserve energy and make the most of local resources. Homeowners offer explanations about their choice of materials and other structural details, pointing out how these choices were made to make the home as green as possible. Belliveau, who's also a designer, occasionally discusses other eco-friendly alternatives, and the show also deals with the specific architectural designs of each residence, demonstrating how these works of art function as environmentally sustainable living spaces.

Gardening by the Yard

Gardening by the Yard is an American gardening show that airs weekly on HGTV and is hosted by master-gardener Paul James. It premiered in 1996. HGTV states that Gardening by the Yard is for people who want their yards to look great but don't have time to spend on them. James focuses on the lighter side of gardening and practices organic gardening. Topics include composting, correct watering, plant zones, vegetable gardens, planting plants that are natural to your area, and many other gardening basics. Most of the show is taped in James' Tulsa, OK backyard. James is not afraid to show flaws in his yard as he claims this makes the show a real gardening program. James will also have occasional guest gardeners give their own tips for specific fruit and vegetable crops such as growing fruit trees in containers or designs for the garden. James often takes the show to locales across the country to visit other gardens or locally owned nurseries. The show has featured many guest stars over the years including James Gonzalez and Alexis Stewart. 2009 was expected to be the last year for the show as it has not been renewed. However, as of mid-2010, reruns are shown early weekday mornings. As of January 2012, the show no longer appears on HGTV's schedule, but visitors to HGTV.com can find short web-cast reruns of the show.

Do-it-yourselfers get down and dirty in this longtime series that showcases homeowners and apartment dwellers planning and executing weekend projects. What they lack in experience they certainly make up for in unbridled enthusiasm combined with the satisfaction of completing the work on their own.

reDesign

If there's one man who can work the room, it's designer and host Kenneth Brown (a frequent guest on HGTV programs before starring on "reDesign"). The Louisiana native's tasteful take on interiors always results in interesting transformations, and his warm and bubbly personality lends itself to easily understood explanations of how the creative process unfolds. Brown's natural inclination to always work closely with clients and clearly explain his reasoning during the redesigns also helps viewers understand his process for redefining spaces.

Homes Across America

Join Joe Ruggiero and Suzanne Dunn in this Telly Award winning series that celebrates fine homes across the United States, and the diversity that is American home design. Each episode presents three homes in detail, focusing on the design elements that make the homes distinctive and also telling the story of their owners and designers.

If Walls Could Talk

If Walls Could Talk is an American television show on HGTV. Each episode lasts half an hour and usually airs at 5:00 and 5:30 Eastern Time. Hosted by Mike Siegel, this show talks about mysteries and shocking discoveries found in houses. Previous hosts include C. Van Tune, Grant Goodeve, and Elyse Luray.

The Carol Duvall Show

The Carol Duvall Show is an arts and crafts show which aired on the HGTV cable channel from 1994 to 2005 hosted by Carol Duvall. It was also broadcast on the DIY Network from 2005 until late-2009. Recordings of segments from the show can be viewed on their website. The show is devoted to demonstrating and teaching a wide variety of crafts from very basic "cut and glue" projects to intricate polymer clay creations. Duvall's program was one of the original offerings on the newly founded Home & Garden Television network in 1994, and it has remained one of the lifestyle network's most popular shows throughout its 12-year run. She introduced many polymer clay artists to the community including Judy Belcher, Maureen Carlson, Kim Cavender, Katherine Dewey, Emi Fukushima, Syndee Holt, Debbie Jackson, Donna Kato, Barbara McGuire, Ann Mitchell, Karen Mitchell, Becky Meverden, Lisa Pavelka, Gail Ritchey, Nan Roche, Michelle Ross, and Bob Wiley who have inspired countless polymer enthusiasts. The show also featured interviews with crafters and fine artists - painters, sculptors, glass-blowers, etc. with footage of them at work in their studios. The cancellation of the show on HGTV caused dismay among many of her fans; whose protests might have influenced the decision to continue broadcasting it on the DIY Network.

Designer Superstar Challenge

Designer Superstar Challenge also known simply as Superstar Challenge is a show hosted by Karen Bertelsen on HGTV Canada that has had four seasons. Similar to the American series HGTV Design Star, the show features aspiring interior designers competing in a series of challenges, following which one contestant is named the "design superstar" at the end of the competition. It is the original "Superstar" themed show on HGTV, and went went on to inspire Handyman Superstar Challenge, Superstar Chef Challenge, and Superstar Hair Challenge.

Sleep On It

Sleep On It is a half-hour show that premiered on HGTV on January 1, 2008 at 10 pm. The show will feature families looking to buy a house who get to "try" the house before they make a final decision. In each episode, the potential buyers will first look at two possible homes. From those two, they will choose one to give a trial run, by living and sleeping in the house for 24 hours, before deciding if they want to buy it. The show is narrated by Brian Davis.

Designer Guys

Designer Guys was a design show on HGTV created by Mary Darling and produced by WestWind Pictures. The first three seasons were hosted by Chris Hyndman and Steven Sabados. After they departed, the next three seasons starred Matt Davis, Allen Chan, and Anwar Mukhayesh.

Divine Design

Divine Design is a Canadian interior design show produced by Fusion Television which airs on W Network in Canada and HGTV in the United States. It is broadcast on Thursdays, 9pm e/p and is hosted by Candice Olson, one of Canada's top designers. In the show, Olson heads a team of artisans and skilled labourers that includes Paul Daly, Lorne Hogan, Chico Garcia, Edmond Joseph, Terry Edward Briceland and Andrew Downward. The half-hour show features Olson's step-by-step interior redesign of a client's living space mixed with campy comedy shorts before each commercial break.

Buy Me

Buy Me is a television program that has aired on HGTV in the U.S. since 2005, and on HGTV Canada since 2003, where it is that cable network's most popular show. It is also seen in Belgium and South Africa, either dubbed or with subtitles. It is produced by Whalley-Abbey Media Holdings, which is owned by Debbie Travis and her husband, and produced Debbie Travis’ Facelift. It shows the entire process of selling a home, from listing the property, to repairing any problems with it, to open houses, to the negotiations of the selling process. It covers all of the details of the process, including home inspections, and occasionally even mild arguments between the sellers and real estate agents. Occasionally, the home fails to sell within the six-month period allotted, but in most cases a postscript of sorts is given by the narrator or in text, stating how things turned out. The show is generally taped around WHAM's native Montreal, and receives a Quebec tax credit for film and video production. A few more recent episodes are clearly shot around Vancouver in coastal British Columbia, and some in Calgary, Alberta's largest city. New episodes are being taped in the U.S., in both Raleigh, North Carolina and Denver, Colorado. The show has been renewed for five more 13-episode seasons.
