7th-8th century
Two fragments of a red tapestry-woven band with a buff scrolling vine forming medallions against a red background. Medallions formed by the vine scroll contain animals and nereids riding sea monsters done in buff colored yarn. The hair of one nereid is done in black wool. The nereids hold scarves up over their heads, a conventional pose. One of the bands turns at a right angle. Weft wrapping used to create extended lines parallel to the warp direction.
