In this painting, a prince and his beloved stand on a rampart at night. The prince, whose status is denoted by his turban and large plume, holds a sword in his right hand while he points to the flying birds in the sky with his left. He looks at his beloved as she stares out at the birds. She holds the mouthpiece of a hookah in her right hand. Behind them are three female attendants, one carries the hookah base and another carries a fan. Below the rampart is an open window revealing two female musicians. One plays a tambura, a type of string instrument, and the other plays a tabla, a type of drum. Pahari School, Kangra Style.
