1-50 CE
Buff fabric with mottled orange-red slip. Deep reservoir with curving sides. Flat base offset by a raised ring. Sunken discus rimmed by four bands in relief, with two bands in relief decorating the discus. Small central fill hole. Vertical pierced handle. Above handle is the broken stump of what would have been a handle-ornament. Double nozzles with attenuated volute decoration extend from body of the lamp at an approximately thirty degree angle from each other. Nozzles retain very small traces of charring.
4.6 x 8.3 x 13.4 cm (1 13/16 x 3 1/4 x 5 1/4 in.)
The provenience of this lamp is unclear. It retains an old label on its base, L3, which appears to be an old classification either of McDaniel himself or, more probably, of the Classics Department. The lamp could well be an original component of the McDaniel Collection, but it appears neither in the 1970 unpublished McDaniel catalogue nor in David Mitten's 1959 HSCP article.
