After the defeat of Napoleon, in whom the Poles had placed so much hope for the restoration of their country, a dark night of slavery descended. The struggle for Poland continued in various ways and by various means, depending on which partition the former territories of the country found themselves under. In literature, drama, and later in film, the struggle of Polish patriots with weapons in their hands, e.g., in the November and January uprisings against the tsarist regime, found greater reflection and resonance. Relatively little is known and little was known to the general public about the struggle for the liberation of the people of Greater Poland, which was under Prussian rule. And yet it was the "longest war in modern Europe."

"Czas pogardy" was shown primarily from the perspective of two main characters - Lieutenant Władysław Niwiński and Leon Kuraś - a petty crook, but not without heroic traits. The theme of the film is the activities of an emigrant emissary who, on the eve of the Spring of Nations, prepares the ground in Galicia for the outbreak of an anti-Austrian uprising. At the same time, against the backdrop of these events, the series depicts the adventures of two friends: Damasius, embroiled in political activities, and young Julius, who falls in love with a mysterious girl. All these plots center on a mysterious mansion - the "enchanted mansion" of the title.

The two main characters are: Filemon, a little white kitten, young and naïve; and Bonifacy, an old, serious black tomcat. Other characters are: the Grandmother, the Grandfather, the Puppy, a fox, mice, 'monsters from the attic', and other creatures. The cartoon is rich in elements of Polish folk legends and traditions.
