Author and critic John Mason Brown, who once commented that "some television programs are so much chewing gum for the eyes," offered this intellectual alternative in 1948-1949. It consisted of an informal living-room discussion on the arts with two or three guests, of the caliber of author James Michener, producer Billy Rose, publishrer Bennet Cerf, and critic Bosley Crowther. The subjects ranged from modern art to new novels, films, the theater and fashions.

World News Tonight with David Muir

ABC World News is the flagship daily evening television news program of ABC News, the news division of the American Broadcasting Company television network in the United States. Currently the weekday editions (going by title ABC World News Tonight with David Muir) are anchored by David Muir. ABC World News has been anchored at various times by a number of other people since its debut in 1953. It also has used various titles, including ABC Evening News from 1970 to 1978 and World News Tonight from 1978 to 2006.

Candid Camera

Candid Camera is an American hidden camera/practical joke reality television series created and produced by Allen Funt, which initially began on radio as Candid Microphone June 28, 1947. After a series of theatrical film shorts, also titled Candid Microphone, Funt's concept came to television on August 10, 1948. The show last aired for 10 episodes in 2014 on the TV Land network. A documentary about Allen Funt is currently in the works by the Candid Camera crew. The format has appeared on U.S. TV networks and in syndication in each succeeding decade, as either a regular show or a series of specials. Allen Funt himself hosted or co-hosted almost all of the TV versions until a 1993 stroke from which he never recovered. His son Peter Funt, who had co-hosted the specials with his father since 1987, became the producer and host.

Kukla, Fran and Ollie

Kukla, Fran and Ollie is an early American television show using puppets, originally created for children but soon watched by more adults than children. It did not have a script and was entirely ad-libbed. It aired from 1947 to 1957.

Queen for a Day

Queen for a Day was an American radio and television game show that helped to usher in American listeners' and viewers' fascination with big-prize giveaway shows. Queen for a Day originated on the Mutual Radio Network on April 30, 1945 in New York City before moving to Los Angeles a few months later, and running until 1957. The show then ran on NBC Television from 1956 to 1964. The series is considered a forerunner of modern-day "reality television". The show became popular enough that NBC increased its running time from 30 to 45 minutes to sell more commercials, at a then-premium rate of $4,000 per minute.

It starred Richard Libertini as a middle-aged comedy writer married to a much younger wife, and focused on the trials and tribulations he faced raising two stepchildren and one biological child. The series was created by Earl Pomerantz.

Bet on Your Baby

Bet on Your Baby is an American television game show that is hosted by Melissa Peterman. The series premiered on ABC on April 13, 2013, with two back-to-back episodes. Each episode features five families with toddlers between the ages of two to three-and-a-half years old, who play to see how well they can guess their child's next move in order to win money toward their college fund.

Celanese Theatre

Celanese Theatre is an anthology television series which aired from October 3, 1951 to June 25, 1952 on ABC. The show aired as a 60-minute program on Wednesdays at 10pm ET. Beginning on January 9, 1952, the show aired in a 30-minute version which ran from 10pm to 10:30pm ET. The series was produced by the Celanese Corporation and the William Morris Agency, and featured plays by Maxwell Anderson, Philip Barry, Rachel Crothers, Eugene O'Neill, S. N. Behrman, Elmer Rice, John Van Druten, Sidney Howard, Paul Osborn, and Robert E. Sherwood. The show alternated with Pulitzer Prize Playhouse. For a short period beginning in October, Celanese Theatre alternated with a short-lived program King's Crossroads.

Young Joe, the Forgotten Kennedy

Young Joe, the Forgotten Kennedy is a 1977 television movie that originally aired on ABC. Based upon the biography by Hank Searls called The Lost Prince: Young Joe, the Forgotten Kennedy, the film chronicles the life of Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., the unlucky older brother of John F. Kennedy. Young Joe stars Peter Strauss in the titular role and was directed by Richard T. Heffron.

Geppetto is a 2000 made-for-television musical remake of the popular children’s book The Adventures of Pinocchio starring Drew Carey and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It featured original songs written by Stephen Schwartz. Schwartz had developed the songs as a reunion for Mary Poppins stars Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, but Andrews was undergoing throat surgery so the idea was dropped. Carey's role in the film became a recurring butt-of-jokes on his series Whose Line is it Anyway?, which also featured fellow cast member Wayne Brady as a regular performer.

The Night They Saved Christmas is a 1984 RHI Entertainment Christmas film, executive produced by Robert Halmi, Senior and Junior; and originally developed for ABC. The film is about an oil company dynamiting in the North Pole in search of an oil field, unaware that they are endangering Santa Claus. The movie stars Jaclyn Smith and Art Carney.

The Music Man

The Music Man is a 2003 American television film directed by Jeff Bleckner and starring Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth. The television production, which was broadcast by ABC on the February 16, 2003 edition of The Wonderful World of Disney, is based on the book of the 1957 stage musical by Meredith Willson, which was based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey. The musical was adapted for television by Sally Robinson. The three-hour presentation was watched by 13.1 million viewers, with a 3.8 rating/9 share in adults aged 18–49. It finished second in the first two hours and fourth in the final hour.

This Might Hurt

This Might Hurt is a medical comedy picked up by ABC, however the pilot episode didn't air. It was scheduled to air in 2009. The show centers on a multi-specialty private practice, in which a pediatrician, an internist and an OB-GYN all operate under the same roof. The idea steamed from the amount of time Winer spent in his own doctor's office. He claims, "One of the funniest things in the world to me is pain." The show is unscripted, with only main plot points set. The actors improvise the dialogue to get to those points. The pilot has been completed and is currently being test-marketed.
