Self Portrait

The film is about Film Institute of India in its early days. It depicts different stages of training of a students from their entrance viva voce to the convocation when they receive their diplomas. Salient features of training in different disciplines like Film Direction, Motion Picture Photography, Sound Recording and Sound Engineering, Film Editing and Film Acting are discussed. Instruction in other components like Film Appreciation, basic concepts of make-up, art direction, music, speech, diction and yoga classes are also shown. The valedictory address given by Mrs. Indira Gandhi the then Minister of Information and Broadcasting stresses the need for young filmmakers to work with sincerity and conviction and not solely with a desire to please.
