Cities around the world have a major problem with rats. The animal has generally been regarded as a carrier of disease and is very unpopular with humans in the western world. However, surprisingly little is known about this dreaded cultural successor. Science is only just beginning to discover the rat for itself and to "rehabilitate" its image.
