Sketchbook with black fabric-covered cardboard covers, held together by two metal rings. An inscription in graphite on the upper left of the inside of the front cover reads "1st Paintings of Maine / NEH -- / Somes Sound." [Somes Sound is written "Soames," though Prentice crossed out the "a"] The pages are of stiff cream wove paper, without a perforated edge. Eighteen drawings, although some pages may have been removed. The drawings are dated in graphite in the lower right corner. There are no drawings on the verso of the sheets. All the drawings are executed in watercolor, and depict landscapes.
