Beginning his day, Specialist Five Thomas R. Katke pauses to help a school teacher line up her students for the daily flag raising ceremony. Katke often takes time out from his work in the village to help the teachers -- at the same time learning more about the people of Gadsden Village. (U. S. Army Photo)

One of the Girls (First of five): Candice Bergen one of eight actresses who play "The Group" in the film based on Mary McCarthy's 1963 best seller about Vassar Girls clowns with a makeup man before filming of a funeral scene at St. Mark's in the Bouwerie (CQ), a New York City church. Competition for the roles was great, with 500 youngsters trying for the parts.
