c.1950
Unfinished painting, related to "The Wild" (oil on canvas, 1950, MoMA). The unfinished work was found , wrapped around a bottle, in the artist's studio after his death. The work was subsequently mounted on a wooden support, stapled on the margins, with the original orientation being unknown. Like "The Wild" (1950), the painting is an isolated orange "zip," though in this case the central orange line is surrounded by a mottled greenish yellow on either side. The selvedge edge of the canvas runs along one of the long sides.
