Sketchbook with beige-cloth-covered cardboard covers; and pencil sleeve. Pages of off-white, blue, blue-flecked, and buff wove paper. Sewn page block. Sketchbook is incomplete, with thirty-four pages remaining. Fifty-four drawings. The pages are numbered in red-brown ink in the upper right corner. The book is numbered up to page 37. Pages numbered 10, 11 and 23 have been removed from the sketchbook. In addition, the page before page 1 appears to have been removed prior to numbering. Wilson (1897, private collection); Asher Wertheimer (1898, Tate Gallery) and Mrs. Asher Wertheimer (1898, New Orleans Museum of Art); Princess Demidoff (Sophie Vorontzoff-Dashkoff) (1895, Toledo Museum of Art); Margaret "Daisy" Leiter (1898, Kenwood House, London); possibly Mrs. William Marshall Cazalet and her children (1900-1901, private collection); Mrs. Isaac Newton Phelps Stokes (1897, The Metropolitan Museum of Art); Mrs. Hugh Hammersley (1892, The Metropolitan Museum of Art); Mrs. Charles Hunter (1898, Tate Gallery); Miss Jane Evans (1898, School Hall, Eton College); Lord Watson (1897, Faculty of Advocates, Edinburgh, Scotland); as well as sketches of Emily Sargent and a number of unidentified sitters. Also, two sketches for what appears to be a pendentive, two unidentified ornamental designs, a sketch of furniture, and an anamorphic drawing of a skull. The front pastedown has a graphite sketch of a building.
