Statuette of a monkey (or, less likely, a baboon) mounted on a small handle for some sort of implement, perhaps a blade or cosmetic applicator. The monkey stands with knees bent. His left arm is against his body, holding the strap of a bag on his back. In his right arm, which hangs by his side, he holds a situla or bucket. The base of the handle curves upwards in two volutes.

Miss Elizabeth Gaskell Norton, Boston, MA and Miss Margaret Norton, Cambridge, MA (by 1920), gift; to the Fogg Museum, 1920. Note: The Misses Norton were daughters of Charles Elliot Norton (1827-1908).
