late 18th - early 19th century
Seated against a large, cylindrical cushion is a Rajput noblewoman, facing right. She peers from the shawl that covers her head, her left hand holding the edge away from her face. Her right hand reaches out to her extended right foot. She is adorned with bracelets, anklets, earrings, a head ornament, and a nose ring. In front of her are two flasks, a tray holding food, a box with its lid propped against it, a pair of sandals, and another tray on the far right. On the left from behind a partition is a female attendant. She carries a scarf in her right hand while holds up a peacock feather fan in her left. Both accoutrements signify the seated woman’s elevated status. Rajput Style.
