The sketch was drawn on the back of a menu from the Royal Academy's dinner of Tuesday December 31, 1907. The menu has come loose from the album leaf.

Winthrop, 1935, bequeathed; to Fogg Art Museum, 1943 A number of the drawings in this album were given to Murray (a Scottish landscape painter and Royal Academician, 1849-1933) by Sargent. Murray lived at 1A Langham Chambers, Portland Place, London.
