1852
Sketchbook with brown-paper-covered cardboard covers and brown-leather-covered spine. Covers impressed with design of grapevines. Pages of off-white wove paper, slightly darkened, 14.4 x 22.2 cm. Pages have rounded corners. Sewn page block, mostly unbound. Drawings made in graphite. There appears to be a page missing after p. 30; there is a dark offset on the verso of that page, but the facing page does not have a drawing that corresponds. Rear pastedown has a drawing of an obelisk drawn in a circle.
15 x 22.5 x 1.4 cm (5 7/8 x 8 7/8 x 9/16 in.)
By descent through artist's family, 1880; Alice Carter Gifford, Cambridge, MA; bequeathed to her son Sanford Gifford, Cambridge, MA; his gift to the Harvard University Art Museums, 2001.
